TAfiAXAKI JOCKEY CLUB.

!A meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held on the racecourse a day or two ago, there being preseaf: Messrs L. A. Nolan (chairman), 0. W. Sole, Newton King, W. C. Weston, R H. Chasey, E. F. Blundeil, 6. JTraser and W. P. N.ieoll.

The question of providing additional car acoommodntion was discussed, the committee recognising that the increasing number of motor-cars to be seen at the race meetings of the club made ifr necessary that something should : be donein this connection in the near future. The matter was /carefully considered, tut no definite decision was arrived at.

It was decided to erect a temporary wire-netting fence along the front of the main entrance in order to protect the isbrabs, etc, from damago by straying, 'stock.

Instructions; were given to Mr. Bates.' (architect) to prepare plana for new outside conveniences, and ulso to report on proposals for. rearranging, the ladies' cloak room.

T.J.C. 'AUTUMN MEETING.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE FRIDAY EVENING. :

Nominations for the T.J.C. autumn meeting to be held on the New Plymouth -racecourse on Wednesday and Thursday, February 5 and 6, are now engaging the; attention of horse-owners and trainers, who should find the programme a most attractive one. On the two days the club is giving away £3425, the principal; items on the first day being the Taranaki Cup (COO sovs; a mile and a quarter), the Flying Handicap (200 sovs; six furlongs) and a new event—a five-furlong: race for two- and three-year-olds—to which 250 sovs has been allotted. Thia: should-be the means of inducing a larger field than usual. The Fifth'Tariinaki Stakes, which is worth 500 sovs, spd is to be run on the second day, has closed with twenty-nine entries. Tho Paul Memorial Handicap, of 9 furlongs, isworth 300 sovs. There is a hurdle race on each day worth 160 sovs. Hacka are -also well catered for, no .event beingworth less than If K) sovs to the winner. Nominations close on Friday evening at 9 o'clock, and the secretary (Mr. E. P. Webster, should have a busy time, for not only ■"'ill the programme itself appeal to local and outside owners, but the fact tlwt it is to 'be followed a week later by the Egmont E.G. meeting, in which the Cup in worth 600 sovs, and other events are equally generously endowed, should be an added incentive to owners from a distance to nominate their best handicap horses.
