HIS LIFE'S GOAL.
"OLD TIGER" AND ALSACE.
A Paris message states that on his return from redeemed Alsace and Lorraine the Premier, M. Clemenceau, delivered one of the most remarkable speeches ever heard in the Chamber of Deputies. The Premier was greeted with enthusiasm when he entered the Chamber during a quiet discussion on the question of Algerian mining privileges. There was hearty applause from all sides of the Chamber as the "Old Tiger" ascended the tribuue and began an address in a low voice. "For me in this life, which at times seemed miserably long," he said, "it has been permitted that I should travel over the stage of the crime which has been committed between Bordeaux and Strassburg. What has been accomplished surpasses anything history ever registered. "The redemption of Alsace ayd Lorraine has been the goal of my life. A young girl to whom I spoke in Strassburg said to me, 'We may now smile, M. Clemenceau. We have wept long enough. 1 "I am speechless," he said. "Silence alone could cope with such a situation. Many times I have felt that life was not worth living, but since young girls from Alsace and Lorraine, in the exuberance of their joy, have kissed me, saying 'Saviour,' my journey of life is finished."
