DISCHARGE OF DISABLED SOLDIERS.

THE .KING'S CERTIFICATE.

Wellington, Jan 6 It ia announced in general orders that the King has approved of the issue of a certificate on discharge, hearing his signature, to members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who have been disabled in the war The members qualified to receive this certificate will be warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and men who have served overseas in a theatre of operations and wltose disablement has been caused or aggravated by military service, or is directly attributable to action of the enemy—e.g., air or naval raids Soldiers already discharged must make application to the Director of Base Records. The theatres of operations are defined, for the purpose of this award, as:

(1) Western European theatre; to include all operations in France and Belgium from August 4, 1914. (2) Eastern European theatre; to include all operations in Macedonia from October 5, 1915, and Gallipoli from April 25, 1915, to January 9, 1916. (3) Egyptian theatre; to include all operations against Turco-German forces from November 5, 1914; also operations against Senussite forces in western Egypt and on the borders of Granaie: and operations in Darfur from November 3, 1914. (4) African theatre; to cover operations in British East Africa, German East Africa, Rhodesia, Nyassaland, Uganda, Zanzibar, German South-West Africa, Kamerun, Togoland, Nigeria. (5) Asiatic theatre; to cover Mesopotamia, Aden Protectorate, Arabia, Arabian coast, islands in the Red Sea, Persia, Seistan, Tsing-Ta,u. (6) Australasian theatre; to cover

the Bismarck Archipelago, German Samoa, Kaiser Wilhelm's Land and Kauru. The cases of men who were wounded while serving in other fields with Allied amies may be considered individually. The list gives an idea of the extent of the fields covered by British armies during the war.
