President Wilson's Christinas message =tates:— Americans will be cheered by the knowledge of the fact that throughout, tho great nations with which wc have been associated in this war, public opinion strongly sustains all the proposals for a just and lasting peace, and the close co-operation of the self-governing peoples in making that peace secure after the present terms of settlement are formulated.—United Press.

PRESIDENT WILSON. - A JUST AND RIGHTEOUS PEACE, i New York, Dec. 25. President Wlson arrived at Chaumont on Christmas morning, and was welcomed by General Pershing. He afterwards left for Langres in order to review and address the American troops and eat Christmas dinneT with them. He leaves for London at six o'clock. Speaking at Chaumont, he said he had not found any difference of principle or fundamental purpose among the Allied teaders with whom he was co-operating for the settlement of peace problems. The world now knows that the nations that fought are prepared to make peace upon the basis of justice and righteousness. Any peace made must be a people's peace.

EXPLOSION AT MUNITION WORKS,

New York, Dec. 24. At Watertown, New York, an explosion destroyed the shell-loading building of the J. B. Wise munition plant. Several bodies have been recovered. Fifty persons were injured.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc. ; ON THE SEA: ARRIVAL OF INTERNED BRITISH SHIPS. London, Dec, 21. Fifteen British merchant ships interned at Hamburg have arrived on the Tyne.
