LARGE NUMBERS OF LIFEBELTS ■DISCOVERED. Further developments cams to ligh, yesterday n connection with the wash-ing-up of the naval mine which was found on the beach near Oaonui on Christmas Day. The mba is about 4ft in length and at the thickest part measures about 2ft 6in. A report was received yesterday morning to the effect thai': a number of lifebelts had been found along the beach to as far north as Okftto, and that come were in the possession of the Natives. Latest accounts estimate that over 50 belts have been discovered. Constable O'Neill, of Rahotu, is in charge of matters, and it is understood he is endeavoring to collect the belts, which will be handed to the Customs officials. The only indications of further mafks of identification-are those on one of tie lifebelts, which, bears the.jaseriptkm S.G.T.iL, Formosa, Marsielle.,
With regard to the bottle containing letters, which was picked up, sll3 was found by a boy named Looney, some time ago, and is not considered to have any connection with the mine ad lifebelts that have been found.
