The iate Mr, ticubbs was 45 yeais of age.
Miss Banwell, who has for the past twelve months been in charge of a class in the preparatory department oi New Plymouth Boys' High School, has been appointed - lady principal of the St. Mary's School,-Hawera. Mr and Mrs W, MTtenzie, of Palmerston North, are spending a few days' holiday in New Plymouth. Mr M'Kcn2ie is secretary of the New Zealand Fresian ./Breeders' Association.
Mr George Rutherford, brother of the late Mr A. VV Rutherford, died at Merivale, Christchurch, on Sunday, aged 68 years. Another brother, Mr Duncan Rutherford, died about a year ago•Sir 0. Wyllie, oT Waitara, has been informed by the Minister of Defence that his son, Captain E. M. "Wyllie, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, has been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry on the field of action. Lieutenant Athol M'lsaac, MiC., arrived in New Plymouth on. Wednesday night on furlough. Ha leit New Zealand as a private in the Main Body, served through the Gallipoli campaign and was one of the first New Zealanders promoted on the field to a. commission. Lieutenant M'lsaac then went on to France and served Uninterruptedly through all the engagements that the Now Zealand division was engaged in. "For hjs untiring energy and personal example at Messines he was awarded the Military Cross. On December 10, at St. John's Church, Wellington, the marriage took place of Mr. James Stewart Mackenzie, master in the Hawera High School, and eldest son of Professor. B. Mackenzie, of Victoria University College, Wellington, to Miss Doris Ella Robinson, also of the staff of the Hawera Hi?h School, and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W Robinson, of Inglewood. The Rev. Dr. <3ibb officiated. Mr. Charles Mackenzie, brother of the bridegroom, acted na best man, and MiBS Netta Mackenzie attended the bride.
