DAIRY PRODUCE.
THE IMPERIAL.PURCHASE,. ;■ A meeting of dairy interests was held in Wellington especially with reference to the disposal of the exportable surplus of butter and cheese produced (says the Wellington Post). The prices at which the produce has been disposed of have already been published, viz., 10$ d per pound, for cheese and 181s per cwt tor butter. There has been an important change made in the period of payment of a dvances for the produce, however. In future advances will be made fort nightly instead of monthly. The Imperial Government will m.future be responsible for storage charges of butter and cheese awaiting shipment alter two months, instead of three, as formerly Whey and milled butter will be purchased on the same terms as last sea- | son, viz., 133s 8d per cwt for first class whey butter, y 2 d per pound lesa lor second grade, and 124s 4d for first-grade milled butter and y 2 d per pound less for second grade From inquiries made in authoritative, quarters, it is learned that there does not appear to be any likelihood of the proportion of profits on butter shared by the Imparia! Government with producers exceeding,...l7s per cwt. Details in connection with the equalisation of returns from butter supplied for the loeal trade, so as to bring them on a parity with: those from export under the Imperial purchase schema, have been fully considered prior,;.togenlf-;; era] adoption. :: ■•- "■'■ •-"!-..-;:«' '.;:, Victorian butter-makers 'were «oat in-" dignant at the* Government frxatiqn of the price of butter for local.coflgtffflptlun [ at 'below" its export yalufe. : -Ite,[local rate had been figured-' 1 kft cw_t below the'eXpoH valuef-Mtfl iti:wa»||eßtl-" mated that lose £3,000,000 by A' meeting of; dairy s*S'Wan- ! garotte for against the Federal Government *fifcßtinn of the ltfcal price of butter beiow the London parity why" the>< dairyman should be bouml t6 find butter for the general community at a. loss of per pound.
