ALLENBY'S VICTORY.
A TROOPER'S TRIBUTE. A Wellington member of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, writing from the Rest Camp, Ferry Post, Palestine, after an experience in the torrid valley of the Jordan, says: "The boys of our brigado have nearly all had malaria. I can tell you we have had a bad time. I had to leave the brigade at Jerusalem on our way back from Amman, where, as you have no doubt seen by the papers, we rounded up the Turks. We got the whole army intact—men, transport, aeroplanes, guns, ammunition, in fact the whole outfit, so there is one thing—we are not suffering this fever f6r nothing, although tome of our good lads have died of the fever. Our troop of 32 was reduced to eight, and we have had to 'bring all the horses out of the valley. Every man had three or four horses to lead, as well as to manage his own. "I was wondering whether, If the Turks gave in, they would take us to France to help clean up things there. I dare say they will take our General Allenby away. He is a man who makes no mistakes, and when he strikes he nits hard. There is no mistake he was clever to have brought off this big drive against the Turks. He led them to believe he was going to attack their strong position, Nablus. The Turks flocked there, while all the time our troops were creeping round both flanks, travelling by night. In the end we had the Turk in a complete circle It did. not matter which way he turned, he had our rifles looking at him. Then he began to gel hungry, as we had cut his supplies off. It was then that they came in by thousands—Turks, Germans, and German nurses. One old German nurse came in on her pony. Some of the Australians proposed to get her to cook for them, but she declined, saying that she was going to follow her husband, who was a prisoner."
