Hancock at Saturday's meeting, when discussing Uls necessary qualifications of the applicants required for the vacant engineership. "The council can omit the qualification,'' he went on, "hut I shall stick out that the new engineer shall be a surveyor," and this was eventually decided upon. Cr. Information reaches me that there were two deaths from influenza at Kaponga on Saturday. The epidemic proved very severe out there. As tar as one Pan gather, the epidemic has almost disappeared from our midst, Stratford being -particularly free oi new cases tlie last few days-
