THE RED CROSS.

i CIRCULAR TO ALL CENTEES, The following circular tea been received by the local branch of the Bed Cros Society: At a meeting of the Wellington Executive held recently, the future activities in view of the armistice were considered. It was stated that the Defence Authorities. proposed to bring from ! England, within the next few months, al New Zealand sick and wounded who were in hospital there, and to establish sufficient military hospitals in New Zealand to deal with them, so that nearly all our obligations with regard to them will soon be in New Zealand. It is estimated that the funds m the hands of the treasurer, after remitting £32,000 to the British Red Cross Society, will ha sufficient to meet all requirements—for comforts and luxuries—for the next twelve months, and that it would probably not be necessary to make any further collections, but it will be necessary.for workers to continue to supply extra garments for the use of the patients in the New Zealand Hospitals, and for this purpose it is desirable that the sub-centres should continue their work.

The Defence Authorities will from time to time indicate the particular articles which the lied Cros will be asked to supply, and we will keep you informed as to any directions which wo may receive.

As to the Red Cross shops, the committee passed a resolution as follows: Resolved that in the opinion of this committee it is no longer necessary to continue the Red Cross shops for the assistance of the central funds and that sub-centres be advised to that effect, and that it be left to the individual sub centres to continue 01' close them at their discretion.

The intention is not to interfere flith the discretion of the Committee in any sub-centre which finds a shop necessary to provide material for its own work. The returns for tho"Our Day" balance haa been delayed in some subcentres owing to the recent epidemic, but it is hoped to he able to complete and distribute it very shortly.
