SEIZURE OF THE SCOW MOA.
BY GERMAN WAR PRISONERS, OWNERS PETITION FOR COMPENSATION. By Telegrapli.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The owners'of the scow Moa (The Leyland, and O'Brien Timber Co., Ltd'!) are petitioning Parliament for relief for the loss sustained through the forcible seizure, of' the vessel by Count Von Luckner and the other German prisoners of war, who escaped from Motuihi last Decenv ber -The petition states that Luckner and liis men jettisdned a portion of the cargo of timber, valued at £304 3s 10d,' a coil of wire rope valued at £53 2s sd, and 45 fathoms of cable valued at £59 lOs sd.' It is also claimed that,' upon inspection , in Auckland after the recapture, it was ascertained that the vessel had been severely strained, to rectify which the owner had to etpehd £283 16s sd, and the sum of £405, it is claim* ed, was lost by the owners as the result of Jhe dislocation of their business throujgh the temporary loss of the Moa. ■The petitioners point out that the' prisoners of war were interned by the Gov- , eminent, and that the commandant of the internment camp allowed them, without reasonable excuse, to escape.
