THE ASSASSIN'S CONFESSION PLOT EXTENDED TO OPORTO. POLITICAL LEADERS ARRESTED. Received Dec. 18, 8.35 p.m. Lisbon, Dec. 17. Senhor Paes' . assassin, Rodrigues Dearo, is a commercial traveller. He begged the crowd to give him time to make a confession. He declares that he originated the plot, which extended to Oporto, where another gang awaited the president. During the commotion following the firing, the commandant of Lisbon garrison was killed and twelve persons wounded. The public paraded the streets crying: "Death to traitors!" Dr. Camanho, leader of the Unionists in the Chamber of Deputies, and Senhor Magalhaes Lima, leader of the Republicam, have been arrested. A letter addressed to Lima was found on Paes' assassin.—Times Service.
