THE EMPIRE. "ANNIE FOR SPITE." FEATURING MARY MILES MINTER The attraction at tlie Empire to-night and to-morrow will be the appearance of Mary Miles Minter in the Mutual drama, "Annie for Spite." She works in a department store basement all day and cares *for the younger Cadogan children half the night. The dream of Annie's life, is that some rich lady will adopt her some time, and that she will live in a marble palace, drive in big motor-cars and wear beautiful dresses. Annie's dream comes true, through the hatred of the scheming relative"! of Mrs John Grant Nottingham, who adopts Annie for spite. Emily, the old lady's daughter, the chief schemer for possession of Mrs Nottingham's millions, has a Son named Willard, a manly young follow who falls in love with Annie. When MraNottingham leaves her millions to "Annie for Spite,'' the relatives contest the will and succeed in breaking it, but Willard marries Annie and they .are very happy. EVERYBODY'S. "BILL" HART IN "THE PATRIOT." Bill Hart will make his appearance at Evervbodv's to-night in the thrilling picture, "The Patriot" This is a Triangle release which shows Bill aa a loyal American citizen whose patriotism gets severely shaken by the fact that some sharpers swindle him out of his mining claim. While in Washington trying to get the wrong righted, his little son dies. The effect of these two misfortunes is to drive him to Mexico, where he nurses nn unreasonable hatred of his own country, and eventually joins a bandit horde which is going to attack an Ameircan border town. He goes into the American camp and giveß false information which takes the main body of troops awav and leaves a lot of women and childr.-n defenceless. Rut at this juncture he meets a kiddie whose simple talk brings him back to reason. This is where the thrills come thick and fast. Running fights and wild rides and breathless escapes hustle one another with great willingness. It is a typical Hart, which is all that need be said. Another item that is sure to prove of interest will be the first chanter of a new Pathe serial entitled "The Fatal Ring." Pearl White, who will be favorably remembered for her work in "The Iron Claw," has the star role, and the supporting oast, which includes the names of Earle Fox, Ruby Hoffman and Warner Oland, is a strong one.
