IMPERIAL CHALLENGE SHIELD
HIGH SCHOOL CONGRATULATED BY DEFENCE MINISTER. The success achieved by the New Plymouth Boys' High School in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition was referred to at the High School Board's meeting last night. Mr. Moyes, prin-' cipal of the school, in his report, mentioned that it was gratifying to be able to report that the school teams took fourth place in the senior and third m the junior. Mr. Moyes enclosed a letter from Sir James Xllen, Minister of !>»• fence, who wrote as follows, under date December 10: —"Extreme pressure pi Parliamentary and other business has prevented me from sending you an earlier message of congratulations on the high place secured by your teams—botli senior and junior—in the recent Imperial Challenge Shield competitions. iam sorry, of course, as you. will also be sorry, that your seniov team am not secure first place again; "But it would be hoping too much for them to achieve such a signal distinction two years ,in succession, particularly in' piew of tiie very great number of competing £eams throughout the Empire. I am sure you must fee) very proud indeed of the high positions on the list secured by your teams, and 1 sball be very glad if yon will extend to them my very heartiest congratulations, coupled with the hopa that, on some future occasion they may again secure the championship.". ' l<-r. S. G. Smith, MJ\ considered that the board should not allow the matter to pass without comment, and he moved that the board congratulate the school on the success achieved. This was seconded by Mr. Sladden and carried unanimously-
