CREW OF PHILOMEL PAID OFF. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 16. The men of HM-S. Philomel were.paid off to-day Sir James Allen attended to say goodbye. He said he was very proud of their war work, which dated from August, 1014, They had a splendid record of service. RESIGNATION OF BISHOP OF MECANiESA. Dunedin, Dec. 10. The Primate has decided to accept tha resignation of Dr. Wood, Bishop oj Melanesia, as the work appears to be beyond his strength. The question of the' appointment of a successor wiiil come before General Synod in May, arid, in the meantime, the Rev. R. P. Wilson will administer the affairs of the dfocese. TRAMWAY TROUBLE AT DUNEDIN. Dunedin, La*t Night. There was considerable delay in the running of the city tramcars to-day, thf men, apparently, adopting tae go-slow policy. By 2 p.m. ono car was 42 minutes late. The men contend that they are carrying out tfc.e rules rerfftfdmg re,* duoed speed at crossings, etc. The men's action is believed to be a protest acainst the delay on the p*rt of the Minister for Lrvbor in authoring a ballot under the Labor Disputes Investiga< tion Act.
