THE BANDSMEN'S BENSFIT.
To the Editor.' Sir, —Will vou grant me space in your paper to make an explanation in reference to t!ie annual Christmas benefit, which I inaugurated two years ago? It was my intention to again make the appeal as usual this year, but the happenings of the last few weeks have somewhat upset most people's calculationsWe feel that all sections of the community have been rather "hard hit" as a result of the influenza epidemic, and consequently the bandsmen's benefit appeal will be deferred for another month or two. in thi hope that matters will have become normal by then- Donations will, of course, be accepted and acknowledged by any of the band officials, but the general apneal and special recital will not be held until later. Providing the Health Committee are agreeable, a recitai, with special Christinas mtisie, will be given on Sunday week (22nd), particulars of which will be given in a. future i=sne. Might I take this opportunity of thanking the -public and special donors for the excellent result of the two nrevious Christmas appeals? They were splendid, and duly appreciated by the bandsmen and their families—l am, etc., P. W. G- McT.EOD, Conductor. "Taumata," Gilbert Street, Dec. 14.
