HONORS FOR NEW ZEALANDERS.
y.C. FOR HAWERA, SERGT. GRANT AWARDED THE COVETED HONOR. _ Wellington, Dee. 14. _Base Records has received particulars of the incident for which the Victoria Cross was awarded to 10/2950 (sergeant John Gilray Grant, of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, for gallantry in the field of action. At Bancourt, on September 1, under point blank fire at 20 yards, he rushed enemy posts to the right and left, showing conspicuous bravery. It is recorded that throughout the operation, lastin? three days, he set a splendid example to all his men. His next-of-kin in his mother, Mrs J. Grant, Princess street, Hawera.
