MILITARY DESERTERS., By Telegraph.*—Pre#s Association. Dunedin, Last Night. A court-martial ,sat to-day to try the three men recently arrested at Elfin Bay. Lawrence Barton, described as a eivilservant at Wanganui, pleaded guilty to a charge of being absent without leave. William Douglas Pcarstorr and William Lawrence Yeomans pleaded guilty to similar charges. The sentences will be promulgated in due course. AUSTRALIANS STRANDED IN ' AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. There are CO Australians in Auckland unable to obtain steamer passages to the Commonwealth, the ..majority having booked by the Biverina, which the Federal Government requisitioned. Many are financially embarrassed. A committee on their account have cabled to the Acting-Premier asking what arrangements can' be made for them.
