TARIKL (From Our Own Correspondent) Tariki, Dec 9. A few days back it was mentioned that the Tariki Patriotic Committee had communicated with the Minister fpr Defence, applying that Privates L. F. Hamblyn and P. C Kettle-well should be per. mitted to return as soon as possible, owing to bereavement on the battlefield and the influenza- A reply to the following effect has baeen received:—"Wellington, December 5. With reference to the return of Privates Hamblyn and Kettlewell, now serving with the Expedition- j ary Forces, ho noted the circumstances and had to advise that it has been arranged to have applications of this nature referred for investigation by the responsible authority before any action is taken to cable a recommendation to the General commanding overseas. He (SiT J. Allen) would be pleased, therefore, to at once forward your letter to the Director of Ease Records, in order that it may be treated as an application on behalf of the next-of-kin of these soldiers, and treated accordingly. Ho deeply regretted to hear of the further snd bereavement which had overtaken Mrs. Hamblyn and would be glad if the committee would convey to her bis sincere sympathy."
