WAITARA.
(From Our Own Corespondent.) Saturday, uec. 7 The inspector's report on progress of pupils at the local school is verv satisfactory, a very large percentage of pupils in the lower standards having passed, and every one in Standard TX, 24 gaining proficiency and o competency. This is a very fine performance, and reflects great credit upon Mr Wyllie and staff. A few (lays ago Dr. Walker inspected the school buildings to see if they were fit for a convalescent hospital. He passed some very scathing remarks upon their condition, and condemned the Education Department for allowing them to be used as a school, as they were entirely insanitary and unfit for school purposes. This opinion should help the school committee in their endeavor to get the Education Department to build a new school. The s.s. Devon, which was to have teen here to load frozen meat on Monday, has been delayed by rough weather and will not be here until Thursday. It has been decided to discontinue the Hlock visiting after to-day, as the new cases can now very well be attended to .uy Dr. Campbell, who is about again after his sickness. There were only two fresh cases on Friday and three on Saturday. The number of patients in the hospital on Saturday morning" was 52, including convalescents. From present appearances it would seem that we have the epidemic under control, as there are no serious cases in town at present, and the great majority of those stricken are convalescent.
