PRO-GERMAN PAPERS. INTERESTING evidence. (Bee. December 7, 1.25 p.m.) Washington, Dec. C. Bruce Bileaski, Government alien investigator, giving evidence before the Senate Committee inquiring into proGerman activities, said Baron Bernstorff facilitated the Hearst newspapers correspondent visit to Berlin, because he knew Hearst was favorable to the German cause. William Bayard Hale, a leading Hearst supporter, was also in receipt of a salary from Dr Dernburg, the German Minister. Hale was sent by the German Foreign Office to' Roumania with the object of inducing Roumania to keep out of the war.
BRITISH DAY CELEBRATIONS. 'A NEW AXCLO-AMERICAN COMRADESHIP. BIRTH ON THE BATTLEFIELD. New York, Deo. 6. Referring to tKe celebrations on British Daj", December 7 t the Governor of •New York, in a proclamation, expressed the acknowledgment by the American people of the nobility with which the Anglo-Saxon standard of fair plav had been upheld for four yeaTs by the British Empire. The ideals of America and Britain were one. Some of the newspapers declare that the war lias brought the English-speak-ing people into closer union and point out that without British valor and fortitude the war could not have been won.
