, GENERAL. For the past three weefct the influenza endemic ha* had chief claim on people's minds and conversation, but since Saturday the conditions have steadily improved. Ten much praise cannot be given the doctors and nurses of the public hospital, aud the men and women of the town itself, for the wonderful way they went about to stem the fell disease, which swept like a hush fire through our raUlst It was through their untiring energy and selfsacrifice that the death rate was as low as It was, and if it had not bceu for their prompt organisation in attending to the afflicted, etc., many more lives would hare been lest.

PEBSONAL Mis.; 1,. Mills, who has been Usnsrwrcd to the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Express Co., has returned to Sew Plymouth for a short time. Mr. and Mrs. I. Daniel, who have been on a lengthy visit to "Botorua, have returned to New Plymouth.

Mrs. .las. Jordan, who has been on a visit to Auckland and Whangarei, has returned. Mr«. T. Perry Is on a visit to Auckland. Mrs. P. G. Harvie, who has been visiting Cambridge, has returned. Mrs. R. Paul has returned from Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Waters have returned from Festherston. Mrs. E. Lash, who has been on a visit to Auckland, has returned.

Miss Banwell, of the New Plymouth Boys'. High School stall, has left for Wanganul, thence on to Nelson.

Von. Archdeacon Evans and Mrs. Evans, who have been on a visit to Hamilton, have returned. Mr. and Mrs. Penman (Auckland) are on a visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. Crooke, who has been on a visit to Wellington, has returned, accompanied by Miss I. Crooke.

Mr«. Walter Bayly Is at present In Auckland. Sergt.-Major P.Btalnton and Mrs. Stalnton have returned from Wellington. Miss Mona Corklll, who has been on a visit to Auckland, has returned.

Mrs. J. Paul has returned from Wellington, accompanied by her sister (Mrs. Cunningham). Mrs. and Mls3 B. Matthews left for Wellington this morning. Miss Matthews will Join the sB. Bemuera, for London, where, shortly after her arrival, her marriage will take place to Captain H. Daviea, of the Royal Fusiliers. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Perry, who have been on a lengthy visit to Rotorua, have returned. Mrs. A. Bennett left this morning on a visit to Auckland.
