A NATIONAL ASSEMBLY. DESIRE Of .RETURNING SOLDIERS. London, Dec. 4. Amid the confused and dubious political currents in Germany one fact is now certain. The returning troops almost unanimously support the Ebert Government and approve the immediate calling of the National Assembly. Men from the western front appear to favor order at all costs and recoil from the idea of (seeing their peaceful native towns and villages torn with revolution, with the prospect of an indefinite prolongation of the ferment. It is feared Dr. Liebkneeht may lead a Bolshevist outbreak in Berlin. There is reason to believe that there are secret stores of arms.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Reuter. MAKING RESTITUTION. THE FIRST PAYMENTS. London, Dec. 5. Germany has begun restitution and has delivered to the Allies 300,000,000 francs in gold, which came from Russia. The French have recovered a rich, collection of art works stolen from St. Quentin and paintings from the museum at Valenciennes.—Reuter.
