ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Dec. 3.

There are many who will remember Jim McKay, a saddler, who worked for a number of years in Eltham and Mangatoki. He married a daughter of Nurse Robinson, and then removed to Taumarunui, where he entered business on his own account. Early in the month "Your Own" saw McKay at the long-Maori-named town, and he then looked very well, but wa3 very anxious then regarding the epidemic, which was then in his family. He originally came from Oamaru, and leaves a i<idow and young family. His brother, Jack, is at present away with the later Expeditionary Forces. Pending the erection of new premises, «tho Eltham County Council's offices will be in premises near Mr. G. H. Bucke- , ridge's. The new clerk (Mr. A. Tiplady) has taken up his duties. Yesterday I had a few minutes' conversation with the Mayor, and then, having some time to spare, made a few observations myself, and the more I inquired the more satisfied i became that our ..mniuipal and hospital authorities rose nobly to the occasion. When those patients A'ho have been temporarily prostrated by the illness have had time to recover and reflect, I am satisfied thpy will admit that the community has been well served by those fortunate enough to avoid the sickness.
