TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB,

COMMITTEE MEETING.

A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held last night, there being present Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), W. I'. Nicoll, B. H. Chancy, W. T. Hookham and E. Blundell. Apologies were received from Messrs. Newton King, Gordon Fraser and J. McjLeod.

A vote of condolence was passed witli the relatives of the late Vf. 11. Hartgill, who had been judge at the club's autumn meeting for several years past.

In connection with the train arrangements for the Christmas meeting, it was reported that the Railway Department had-agreed to run a special early morning train from Hawera, arriving at New Plymouth at five minutes past eleven. The afternoon trains would be delayed and a special train would also leave after the races, but the exact time 3 have not yet been fixed. The first race will start at 11.45 a.m.

The catering was again let to Mr. Wooller, while Mrs. May, of May and Arrowsmith's, will control the tea kiosk. The tender of Mr. E. Whittle, of the Red House Hotel was accepted for the refreshment booth.

It was decided to engage the Citizens' Band to provide the music at the meetings during the season. A certificate of fitness of character was granted to Newton Johnson, an applicant for an apprentice jockey's licence. It was decided to admit all returned soldiers and soldiers in uniform free to the Christmas meeting. Accounts amounting to £9O 14a 4d were passed for payment. A committee meeting will be held on Tuesday next, and the District Committee will meet on December 17.

STRATFORD RACES.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-NIGHT.

Owners and trainers ave reminded that nominations for handicap events at the Stratford Racing Club's annual meeting, to be held on New Year's Day, close with the secretary (Mr. A. Coleman), at Stratford, at 9 o'clock to-night. The programme is a particularly good one, the two open events—the Cup and the Douglas Handicap—being worth 600 sovs and 300 sovs respectively, whilst the money in the hack races ranges from 125 sovs to 175 sovs. Those intending to nominate should remember that the telegraph office at Stratford closes at 5 p.m.
