CREW REFUSES TO SAIL TO NEW ZEALAND.

Twelve members uf the crew of the steamer Arawa have been sentenced to twenty-one days imprisonment each for refusing to sail to New Zealand because of the influenza there. The evidence inelided a cable received by Mr. Holman from Mr. Massey, Btating that the epidemic was rapidly decreasing, and that •owing to the extreme precautions there was little or no danger of infection.— Aus. and N.Z, Cable Assoc.

A DRASTIC MEASURE.

Sydney, Nov. 29. There are drastic provisions in the , Venereal Diseases Bill, which has been introduced in the Assembly. These include compulsory notification, the prohibition of advertisements of medicines and treatment. The penal t ; cs arc a year's imprisonment and a £SOO fine for persons infecting others, and five yeare imprisonment and a £SOO fine for inflated persons marrying. The provisions authorise doctors to notify either party that the other is infected.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc.
NEW ZEALAND'S WHEAT PURCHASES.
