(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Stratford, Xov. £7.

Information has been received that Private Ernest P' Aldridge (Pembroke Road), who left with the 4ist Reinforcements, has died of broncho-pneumonia at the Government Hospital, Suez. Deceased was only 21 years of age, and must have been suffering, from the complaint as soon as he landed, as he arrived at Suez on 22nd and died on" the 25th. In March of this year he married Miss Paul, of Pembroke Road. It is a melancholy coincidence that during the same week another relative, A. M. Scott, of Ngaere, travelled west, dying at Eltham from influenza. It is fine to notice the youths of Stratford getting on to the farms and helpin® the man on the land. There are two boys who are doing good work with a Ngaere herd. At 4 a.m. they travei to the farm in a car, attend to the herd, visit the factory, and then come home, returning again in the afternoon for the cow-shed and arriving home about S t».m. Both enjoy the novelty, and, although the work is solid, they are splendidly fit and sleep like a top. ■ At the A- and P. Tooms this afternoon ! Y noticed several sturdy lads receiving instructions about the different farms thev were to visit, as it must be understood tlrat as soon as a farmer can undertake hi? own work there are others in'need of flic let-off assistants. The A and P- nmW good move when they thought of this meansoT helping the dnirvmen, and it will surely not be forgott'ten by those, who have received asoistancp. ' „

With the downfall of Germany th» worM-wide strife now comes to an end. There are other things to occupy th# minds now, and the near advent oi Christmas makes one eoniure up visions of Gifts and Presents. Your opportunity in now to visit Mr. C. 15. James ifln? Jewellery and Taney Goods Warehouse and note the great values and varieties he is offering in seasonable lines. —Advt.
