PRECAUTIONS AT WAITARA.
(Rroiii Our Own Correspondent.)
"Chore are not many severe cases of influenza here, but the effort shows little tdgn of abatement as yet, A few urgent cases have been sent into the hospital at New Plymouth, but most of them are being treated successfully here.
A temporary hospital is being started in St. John's Hall, -with a capacity of about 30 beds for the present More will bo added, if required. A kind of workers are scrubbing it out and putting in the necessary stretchers and other conveniences to-day, and it is expeoted to be ready for patients to-morrow (Sunday),
In. fie district surrounding Waitara the epidemic is playing havoc among the Maoris, deaths being reported every day. I regret to have to report the'death of Mrs, Cowan's little girl from influenza. Much sympathy will be felt for Mrs. Cowan in her sad loss.
WAVERLEY ALMOST FREE.
A message to the Chronicle on Friday night reported Waveriey to be grappling with the epidemic in a thorough manner, and with most gratifying results. Although there are 2-1 patients in the Town Hall hospital, only four local cases were under treatment, all the others having been brought in from outside districts. All business premises closo at noon, and the people generally tliQ women, who are doing splendid work—are untiring to safeguard the health of iilie community.
DECLINING RAPIDLY IN THE CAMPS
