A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Waugh, of Devon Street, aged 19, died somewhat suddenly yesterday We regret to learn this morning that the condition of Nurse Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Austin, who contracted the prevailing disease in the course of her hospital duties, is critical. Mr. George Young, Mayoi of Inglewood, who is at the Hospital, continues to make slight progress towards recovery. Messrs T. Nicholls and W. Crozier, of the same town, aro doing well.

One of the best-known settlers in the Fcatherston district, Mr. John Fenwick, died on Thursday. The deceased gentleman was well known throughout the province as a prominent sport-

Mr W. Wilson, South Road, has received advice that his only son, Private W. A. Wilson, 37th Reinforcements, has died of wounds.

Mrs Kirkby has received advice that her youngest son, Private K. W. Kirkby, 38th Reinforcements, was admitted to hospital in France on. October 29tfo, with pneumonia. Dr. Henry Pollen, Port Health Officer • at Wellington, and a member of the Military Pensions Board, died on Satur- ''•■• day from pleurisy following on influenza; aged 65.

Dr. Verdon, Roman Catholic Bishop, of Dunedin, died on Friday night of heart failure following bronchitis. He was educated in Ireland and at Rome, and was appointed headmaster of St. Patrick's College, Manly (N.S.W.), in 1888. He became Bishop of Dunedia in 1896.

Captain W. C. Drummond, another Well-known resident of Dannevirke, and a prominent competitor at the New Zealand Rifle Association's meetings, died on Wednesday morning. He also competed at Bisley, being a member 9f. the team which on one occasion won the Kolopore Cup. The following deaths occurred at the New Plymouth Hospital on Saturday from pneumonia: Mrs. Mary Kendall JSgmont Village (aged 40, years); Mr, A. J. Thompson, Urenui (39); Jas. J. Bur-. rell, Inglewood (37); Arthur Storring, Inglewood (24); jean Stephens, .Durham Road (2); Mrs. Alice Godfrey, Inglewood (36); Sam Ranuka, Mangorei (16); Mrs. Anita Hansen, Frankleigh Park; Jas. Wood, New Plymouth (41). Yesterday the following died: Douglas McDonald, Okoke (31); Albert Parker, New Plymouth (25r, Mrs. Joseph Brown, Maketawa (57). Mrs Kidd, of Omata, has received official information tljat feer son, Corporal R. Kidd, was killed in action m France on November 5, barely a week before the cessation 'of hostilities. "Bob" was for seven years at the High School, latterly on the teaching staff, and it was only five months since he left for Prance. He was a fine young fellow, of very high principles,"popular among his school mates and loved by the boys of whom he had charge when he was appointed to the starf. His parents will ihave the deepest sympathy of everyone who" knew him.

General regret is felt in Ngaero at the death of Mr. Andrew Scott (says The Argus), who succumbed to an attack of influenza and pneumonia. Mr. Scott, who had been helping at the Ngaero Dairy Factory, where most of the hands Were down with the epidemic, contracted the disease in a mild form, but later suffered a relapse with a severe" attack pf pneumonia, from. which he died'tnis morning. He was a tine type pf man, genial and warm-hearted, ajid of exceptionally fine physique. He leaves a widow and two young children, for whom the deepest sympathy is felt.
