OBITUARY.

Mr Thomas H. Murray, buyer for the Wellington Meat Kxport Co., passed away at his home in Mas+arton.

Mr Grey Phipps, of Levin, a wellknown land and estate agent and licensed Maori interpreter, died in that town early on Friday morning, after a short illness. He lea-.es a widow z.n'3 several children. , The death occurred from influenza at, Wellington on Tuesday, of Mr Henry van Stavcren, junior partner in the legal firm of Messrs Webb and van Staveren, and youngest son of the Rev. 11. van Staveren (Rabbi of Wellington). The deceased, who was esteemed iu the profession, was'only 23 years of age. Included in Monday's deaths at Christchurch was that of Mr A. W. Rutherford, juu., aged 44. Deceased ■was a prominent North Canterbury sheep-breeder, and a well-known racehorse owner. His lather, a former member of Parliament, died from influenza a week ago. A well-known Palmerston citizen in the person of Mr Thomas G. Stockwell succumbed on Sunday to the effects of the prevailing epidemic. The late Mr Stockwell, wliio had practised in V#\merston as a dentist for several years, was at one time associated in 'partnership with his brother, Mr Frank S'.ocit■well, now of Feilding.

The Prime Minister on Monday received word that his wife's sister (Mrs Wotkinson), of Wangamii, had succumbed to an attack of influenza. Her husband died about a fortnight ago, and the body was taken to Auckland for internment. Ik was apparently in Auckland that the late Mrs Watterason contracted the disease.

Mr David Buick, M.P. for Palmerston North was 70 years of age, and one of the early settler, arriving in the Vfanaanui district over 30 years ago and taking up land in Kairanga. He was a breeder of stud sheep, and in his racing stable were many noted winners. Mr Buick had been Palmerston's representative in Parliament for the past 10 years, and he was in Wellington attending tho session wh«n he contracted influenza, and died from complications ensuing Dhereon.
