A CONTRAST: TWO LETTERS.
THE KAISER'S STYLE—AND ! ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S. American papers are contrasting two letters cent to mothers who had' lost all their sons in he war. The first is the recent one sent by the Kaiser to Fiau 'Metev, as follows: "His Majesty the Kaiser hears that you huve sacrificed nine sons in defence of tlie Fatherland in the present war. His is immensely gratified at tlie fact, anfi in recognition is pleased to send you Ills photograph with frame and autograph, signature." The second was sent by President •Lincoln to a. certain Mrs Buxby in the Civil War. and runs as follows: "Deaf Madam.—l have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the. Adjutant-funeral o£ ■Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who hare died gloriously on tlie field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any attempt of mine which should attempt to 'beguile you from trie grief of a loss so overwelminir. : £u+.
