FARMERS' UNION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING: A meeting of the Taranaki executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in flawera on Thursday. The president (Mr. R. Dunn) occupied the chair and there were present: Messrs E. Maxwell, Mills-, 11. Hodge, J. Swindlehurst, T- W. Owen, and J. Cleaver.

Before proceeding with the ordinary business the president referred in feeling terms to the death of sons of some of the members of the union, and moved that this executive desire to extent to Messrs. John Cleaver and family and U J. Tjinn and family their heartfelt sympathy in their recent sad bereavement. Mr. Dunn also wished to include in the resolution an expression of sympathy to all those, whether members of the union or otherwise, who have lost relatives in the struggle for freedom which has just been so gloriously concluded, and asked the members to rise in silence in token of their approval. The president then referred briefly to the glorious news so recently received of the surrender of Grmany to the Allies' terms of armistice.

Outward correspondence was read and approved, and inward correspondence *-as dealt with us under: Letter from Mr. B. Orr; decided to refer this letter back for full particulars, which will be forwarded to the proper quarters.— Manaia branch, re acquisition of certain estates for the purpose of settling returned soldiers. The executive endorse this motioD, and will bring the matter before the proper authorities. Mr. Maxwell moved, and Mr. Hodge seconded, and it was carried, that this executive Bote with pleasure that the Government propose restrictive measures as affecting the holding of lands by people of enemy blood, and that this executive urge and hope that the Government will provide that in taking of settled lands for purposes of placing returned soldiers on the land, that held by those of full enemy blood bo taken, ahd further that the continued residence of such persons within the Dominion be as far as possible discouraged.

The president reported at length upon th 6 result of the deputation from New Zealand Farmers' Union that waited recently upon the Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Waru. —Star
