AUSTRALIA.
MR. HUGHES' PROTEST. QUEENSLAND'S HESITATION., Received Nov. 18. 7.40 p.m. Brisbane, Nov. IS. The Premier declines to accede to Mr. Hugihes' request that the Agent-General should support him in the protest that Australia has not been consulted on the peace terms. Mr. Ryan (the Premier) advised the Agent-General that his Government hesitated, particularly at tJhis juncture, to associato itself with Mr. Hughes' condemnation of the Imperial Government, in the absence of positive evidence that the Allied Governments would not deal fairly to protect the interests of the overseas dominions. WAR DECORATIONS.
GALLIPOLI STAR UNLIKELY. Received Nov. 13, 12.50 a.m. Melbourne, Nov. 18. In view of the War Office's decision to award a star and ribbon to all officers and men serving before December 31, 1915, the Defence authorities are of opinion that there will be no Gallipoli Star decoration, as originally proposed. It would be an invidious distinction for the Australians if not also awarded to the British 29th Division, which participated at Gallipoli. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Amu.
