ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltliam, Nov. 18A fire occurred this morning at the Lady's Mile, where a six-roomed house, owned by Mr. J. Campbell and occupied by Mr. Judd, was entirely destroyed, lv appears that Mrs. Judd had a boiler going on an open liieplaee in one of the rooms, and was engaged in washing outside. Jsy some means—it is thought by a draught down the chimney—some embers were blown out on to the iloor, and started the conflagration. Whatever the cause, the fire had a good hold when discovered, and in the absence of water, the Fire Brigade could cot render much assistance. The house is believed to be insured m the farmers' Mutual office and the furniture iby a Stratford agency. So far the influenza, epidemic has not caused much alarm here, and Eltham's escape from serious consequences is attributed to the clean asphaJt streets and complete drainage system. There are, however, a good many patients requiring medical attention, and the borough officials have boon very busy in the uso of disinfectant?. Business is going on as usual, but there are not many visitors to the town. A great scarcity of fruit prevails, and efforts are being made through the Hospital Board to get a consignment, however small, of oranges and lemons through to Ettham.

Our little town rose to the occasion in connection with the peace celebrations held last Wednesday, the display or cars and other vehicles being a credit to their owners. Eltham has suffered much in the loss of young manhood through the war, but the demonstrations of the past will he nothing to tho pre--para ions promised when our boys come marching home again.
