ON THE SEA.
STEAMER CUT IN TWO. BY COLLIDING WITH DESTROYER Received Nov. 17, 5.5 p.m. New York, Nov. 15. The Canadian Pacific steamer Melita was cut in two and sunk in a collision with the United States destroyer Shaw, on Nov. 9, in European waters. —United Service. ANOTHER VERSION. THE DESTROYER CATCHES FIRE. Received Nov. 17, 8.5 p.m. Washington, Nov. 15. A collision occurred between a destroyer and the British vessel Acquitania, which was cut in two. Only 25 of the crew were rescued. One portion of the Shaw caught on fire, and destroyers, qnicklv arriving, quenched the flames. There are fifteen dead. —United Press.

ADMIRALTY EULOGISES SERVICES. OF MERCHANTMEN 1 AND FISHERMEN. Seceived Nov. 17, 55 pju. London, Nov. 15. The Board of Admiralty, in thanking the mercantile marine and fishing industry for their incomparable services in the war, says that without their loyal co-operation with the Navy, and their indomitable courage, the enemy's submarine campaign must inevitably have attained its object. Success was also largely due to the interest taken by owners in the defensive equipment of their •hips. The board also pays a tribute to the value of the convoy system. —Aus. and N.Z.
