Iti. _ It is unlikely that a Uerman commission will be received here owing to the United States being 3till at war with Germany. The United States has no desire to continue to act as Germany's intermediary with the Allies. , Mr. Lansing has replied to Germany's request for modifications, of the armistice, stating that such diplomatic communication ought not to come l>y wireless, but through the established diplomatic channels They ought also to be addressed to the Allies as well as the United States.—United Press.
QUESTION OF GERMAN FLEET.
WHY GIVEN UP. BEATTY MEETS GERMAN ENVOY. Received Nov. 17. 5.5 p.m. London. Nov. 15. During the armistice discussion, a German envoy asked why the German fleet was to be given up when it had not been defeated. Admiral Wemyss, fixing Mm with his monocle, retorted: "It had only to come out." Admiral Beatty meets the German naval envoys to-day, A British squadron picked up Hhe Konigsberg and convoyed her to the chosen trysting place at sea,, where the Germans boarded Admiral Beatty's flagship.—United Service.
HANDING OVER GERMAN WARSHIPS.
THE PROBABLE LIST. Received Nov. 17. 5.5 pan. London. Nov. 10. The Daily Chronicle states that the German naval delegates met Admiral Beatty on Friday afternoon off Rosytfh.. The handing over of the German warships will probably take place on Thursday. It is expected the vessels will be interned at the Scottish naval base. The British authorities have not yet specified tfae vessels, but, probably, the ten battleships will consist of the Kaiser, the Kaiserine, the Koenig Albrecht, the Kron Prinz Wilhelm, the Prinz Regent, the Luitpold, the MarkgTaf, the Grosser Kurfierst, the Bayern, and tJhe Koenig Prederich der Grosse; and that the six battle cruisers will be the Hindenburg, Derflinger, Seydlitz, Moltke, Von der Tann, and Mackensen.—Axis. I<JThe United Press' Paris correspondent says that Belgian outposts have entered Brussels and that the Allies have readied the outskirts of Bucharest. The United Press' Copenhagen correspondent states that the (tcraian evacuation of Poland has begun, and that the Belgians have entered Antwerp.—United Press.
TURKISH COMPLIANCE. EVACUATION OP MOSUL AND CAUCASUS.
ALEXANDRETTA OCCUPIED. OVERCOMING DELAY IN ARABIA. Received Nov. 17. 5.5 p.m. London, Nov. 15. The War Office announces tihat with a view to securing compliance with the armistice terms by Turkey, the Allies have required the Turkish forces to evacuate Mosul villayet, clearing the town of Mosul before November 15. British political officers will be appointed to control the civil administration.
The armistice also requires Turkey to evacuate the Caucasus, north-west of Persia, withdrawing her forces behind tie pre-war frontiers. Similar withdrawals are to foe made in Syria and Cilicia, indnding immediate demobilisation.
The Anglo-Breach occupied Alesandretta on November 10.
There will be delay in carrying oat the armistice in Arabia, owing to the difficulty of oommunicating With several of the Turkish commanders, but this is toeing overcome by wireless.—Aus. EHZ. Cable Assoc. and Reuter.
