HOTELS AND GLASSES.

BETTER SUPERVISION DESIRED. STRATFORD COUNTY'S PROTEST, At the council meeting on Saturday, Councillor E. W. Hancock drew attention to tie need for greater care being exercised in hotels. At present tho Health Department; issued instructions that all utensils shouM be boiled aud sterilised, but instead "■ that glasses in hotels were being merely doused in water and dried on a towel. He had no desire to close tho hotels but he thought that in the interests of the public health the hotels should only •sell bottled beer or spirits. He was very serious in this matter. The health of the public nmst be safeguarded. The chairman agreed that there was room for improvement in this direction They could do no harm in drawing attention, hut he thought they should not be too drastic.

Cr. Anderson sympathised with the motion. It was absurd that some ffcgula tions should be issued and not carrieu out. -nid, as pointed out by Or, Hancock, this was paxtly nullified by t!ie nonsterilisation of glasses. If they could confine the sale o£ beer and spirits to the bottle, they would be doing well. Cr. Hancock, also a member of the Hospital Board, said by passing a resolution of this description they would strengthen the hands of the Health Department. He reiterated that he had no desire to hamper tho workings of hotels, but he thought they should see that glasses received more than a mere "duel;" in the tub.

The resolution was then carried unaiii' mously.
