(From Our Own Corresepontre Waitara, Xoi The official news of the signing .£ iio armistice by Germany was received here on Monday at 9 o'clock. The Freezing Works and railway whistles Mew, and the iirebcll rang, but there was not the excitement shown that there was on Friday, owing to the fact, no doubt, that a lot of surplus steam had been blown off on the first occasion.
At the patriotic meeting held on Monday night arrangements were made for a procession to the camp at 1 p.m. Mr. T. Buchanan was appointed marshal, and this arrangement was duly carried outThe Band and Cadets, under Lieutenant Kcmpsell, marched to the public school, where the children were all lined up ready. From there the procession proceeded, headed by tho band, followed by the Cadets, Fire Brigade, the Keel Cross ladies carrying a banner. The Kaiser was supported on a frame, and hanging fcy the neck. The school children and numerous motor cars and hundreds of the public marched round the town and up to the Camp, where a thanksgiving service was held. The service commenced with the Old Hundredth hymn, followed by the Lord's Prayer, after which tho Mayor and the Rev. Gavin made speeches of thankfulness for the victorious conclusion of the war. The band plaved several selections, and hags of lollies were handed to every child.on the ground. As the lollies were notijfll finished] lolly scrambles were the ordgSjf the day. The children, at least, thoro'tlgMy ,ej)joyed themselves. . v
A collection was taken up, and resulted in a considerable amount being raised to ho spent in giving the children a good time on Peace Day. The playing of the National Anthem concluded the celebration.
