BRITISH ADVANCE.
NEARING MONS.
FURTHER CAPTURES MADE. London, Nov. 'lO. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We are advancing on -flip -whole British front. The 4tih. and 3rd Armies on the right are advancing astride the Sambro river and meeting little organised resistance. The Ist Army in the centre made rapid progress astride the Mons-Condc canal. Southward of the canal we crossed the Maubeugc-Mons railway and are approaching Mons. Northward of the Mons-Conde canal the Ist Army's left, in conjunction with Wie sth Army's right, cleared the area between the Scheldt river and the'Antoing canal, capturing Peruivelz, and crossed crossed the Antoing canal ►southward of Peruivelz. On the left the sth and 2nd Armies; gained the east hank of the Scheldt on the whole front.
Tdie sth Army captured Antohr. and Tournai and made progress eastward of these towns.
The 2nd Army is approaching Renais. A later message states: Our advanced elements are keeping in contact with the retiring army along the whole -front.
We occupied the Faubourg Bertainmont, on the southern outskirts of Mons, and further north we are approaching Leuze and have captured Hennaix. A British-Belgian communique states: The Belgians occupy the western bank of the Ghent-Terneuzen canal from the Dutch frontier to Ghent station.
The French lhave occupied Melsen and the heights east thereof and the northern part of Meersch. The British have occupied the southern part of Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. - RETREAT OF ENEMY. ON THE WHOLE FRONT. New York. Nov. 10. The Germans are retreating on the whole of the west front.—Aus. < N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Beuter. A GERMAN REPORT. London, Nov.' 9. A German Wireless message says: We evacuated the part of Tournai lying on the west, bank of the Scheldt. We withdrew between the Scheldt and the Oise and westward of the Meuse.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reuter. FRENCH ADVANCE "lO MILES. • London, Nov. 10. A French communique reports: Wc advanced 15 kilometres at certain points, capturing prisoners and guns and a considerable amount of material, including several railway trains. Our cavalry have crossed the Belgian frontier and are hustling the enemy rearguard. We occupied Glagcon, four miles from Hirson and Anor-St. Michel and are pursuing the enemy beyond these places on the general, line Momignies, northern edge of the St. Michel forest, Maequenpise, Forge Philippe. Further east, after forcing the crossing of the Thon and Aube, we carried the plateau northward, despite resistance. We advanced considerably beyond Signy-le-Petit and reached the railway from Mezieres to Hirson. We surround Mezieres and have crossed the Meuse further east.
AMERICAN PROGRESS. London, Nov, 10. An American communique states: Crossing the Meuse south of Stenay we captured Mouzay, pushed through the VVoevre forest, and captured Jametz, Louppy, and Remoiville. South of Badonvillcrs we captured Moirey, Thonmont, and Manhoullcs, all of which were vigorously defended,
