Mrs. A. H. Glasgow, who has bsen the gtet of her daughter (Mrs. J. C. Nicholson), has returned to Wanganui. **• ° ♦

Mrs. Claude Weston left on Wednes day for Melbourne.

Miss K. Hamerton has returned from a visit to Inglewood.

At the request of the InspectorGeneral of Hospitals, five nurses of the New Plymouth staff left last' Wednesday for Auckland to assist in the influenza epidemic there. Sister Langlands was in charge, and the others were Nurses Lansley, Corkill, Lambert, and Waitt.

WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Sew Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee was held on Monday, November 4th, the Mayoress (Mrs C. H. Burgess) presiding. Work for October:—lG2 parcels for Egypt, 380 parcels for France, cases for transport, 3 cases 1 crate to Captain Bilton for transport contingent: Gramophone and records, cakes, biscuits, sweets, preserved ginger, Highlander milk, peanuts; also for sea-sick soldiers not in hospital: Cornflour, seeded raisins and glaxo. 1 case for hospital contingent: Biscuita, soups, glaxo, cornflour, Highlander milk. 1 case matron Soldiers' Sanatorium, Rotorua contingent: Cakes, jam, cream sandwich biscuits, 1 tin assorted biscuits. 3 pareels posted to France and one to Egypt. 28 cases for fhe month sent from rooms. 20 hold-alls were given out during the month.

The president thanked the ladies for the help given at the Pierrots' Ball, and the Band Carnival

Miss Godfrey proposed that Mr West be sent a letter of thanks for sign-wri-ting on calico for the depot.—Carried. Appreciative letters were read from Transport No. 11l at sea, 43rd Reinforcement's left wing, acknowledging gifts of books, cake, preserved ginger and biscuits, E. Tuttill, S. G. Flanntry, Frank Randall of line U.S.A. Med. Depot, thanking the <j£jnmittee for gifts presented to them on leaving No. 1 Stationary Hospital, France.

A number of cards were received from the men who had enjoyed the outing at Boscombe Hostel, England. Correspondence received by Lieut.Coloncl C. H. Weston, in connection with the £SO sent to him by the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee, for the hoys in Hospital, was read. Mrs Oliphant Murray forwarded a letter of thanks for gifts received for Belgian refugees. Mr Hallam, Harrow, England, forwarded many letters from the children of the Harrow Home, to the New Plymouth school children who took part in the Empire Day procession. 'Discussion //s<s. place regarding Pierrot Day, December sth. It was decided to have a pie stall, Id stall, sweets and ice cream stall, afternoon tea booths, etc.

(SOLDIERS' CLUB The Management Committee of the Soldiers' Club wish to. thank the following tea hostesses who have entertained 313 guests during the month of October: —Mesdames Bradbury, S. The committee have noticed lately many spaces on the bookshelves in the readin" room, and would ask those who have borrowed the hooks to kindly return at their earliest convenience.
