ANNOUNCING ARMISTICE NEWS. MO TIME WILL BE LOST. i (By Telegraph—Own Reporter.) j Wellington, Nov. 7- . When the House met to-day, Sir John Findlay asked if the Prime Minister would givo an assurance that any news received regarding an armistice with Germany would be made public immediately. It had been stated that morning, even in high places, that the Government had received such news, and that it was being withheld temporarily for the consideration of celebrations or eome othe- reason. The Prime Minister: I can assure members and, through them, the people of New Zealand, that when the news of Germany's capitulation comes to hand it will be published at the earliest possible moment. Not a word on the subject has come through yet. So many people rang up my office that I got into touch with Government House, and the Governor-General told mo that nothing had come to him, and that when anything came it would be sent on 10 me as quickly a» possible Answering another question, the Prime Minister aaid it fcatl been the intention of the Government that as many civil servants as possible should bo released- for the remainder of the day after the new& of Austria'* capitulation came to hand. The Government's wish would be the aani4 after the German surrender It was not possible for all civil servants to be released. The telegraph officers and the railwaymen, for example, could not be given a general holiday, hut his suggestion had been that the employees should be released wherever possible. The above did not reach us till Thursday, though handed in at Wellington at 7.45 p.m. on Wednesday-)
