A MURDER CHARGE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dargavillc, Nov. 0. The adjourned case of Edward Campbell, a 'half-caste Maori charged with the murder of his wife at Aoroa on or about July Ifllh, was re-opened yesterday before Mr Hunt, S.M. Prisoner was defended by Mr D. L. Ross. Doctor Beattie, Superintendent of the Avondalo Mental Hospital, gave evidence that accused told him on two occasions that he had put his wife in the river and had drowned her. He arrived at the conclusion that accused was not insane. Constable Boag, who had arrested accused as a lunatic, deposed that on two occasions accused delared that he had drowned his wife. At the time of the arrest, the condition of the accused warranted him being regarded as a lunatic. Considerable other evidence was tendered showing that accused had been in the company of some witnesses at the time the murder was alleged to have happened. The case was not concluded.

SOUTfI AFBICAN VETERANS. Wanganui, Nov. 7. A meeting of South African veterans last evening decided to revive the South African Association. Matters of interest to South Africans were discussed, and it was resolved to press for South African men receiving the same privileges as are granted to Maori War veterans and soldiers in the present war The following resolution was also carried unanimously:—;" That. in view of the probable early repatriation of our soldiers serving in the present war, this association urges tho Government to take timelv steps to ensure that such regrottsbk caws as tliat of tho troopship Britannic at the end of the South Afrisan War mrty he prevented, and in particular lluit the overcrowding of transports ho strictly guarded against, notwithstanding any extra expense such policy may entail."
