PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Pukekura Park Board was held last /night, Air C. 10. Bellringer presiding. There were also present Mrs C. Ii Burgess, Messrs G. W. Browne, W. A. Collis, R. C. Hughes and A. Gray (secretary), Apologies were received from Messrs H. Ford and K. Cock, CHAIRMAN'S EFFORT, The chairman reported that it had been decided by the Board 011 its visit to the grounds that the shed 'should not be removed, but should be made habitable; that the matter of sanitary arrangements had been left in the hands of Mr Cook, the Borough Engineer; that it had been decided to set apart a portion of the rooms as a waiting room for women and children. CURATOR'S REPORT. Mr W. W. Smith reported: The. work of the staff was somewhat hindered by wet weather. We pushed the planting as far as is possible for the season and are now endeavoring to carry on the more urgent work with: the reduced staff. We devoted a week to assisting in preparing the ground and rendering general assistance. I took charge of the boats during the afternoon and realised £2 9s 7d which I handed to the secretary of the Citizen's Committee. The borough workmen ploughed up and reformed the road for the sports ground gate down to a distance of a e'Siain for the entrance to the grounds proper. We carted some tons of clay and pushed the road up to the gate. The whole work is well done and will prove a great and lasting improvement, 011 the previous rough condition of the road.. We have finished the walk along the west side of the upper lake in the meantime. Wo hope to finish the Vogeltown entrance this week when we also hope to get another man to assist' in carting the shingle to it. I received some native plant seeds from an unknown donor living in the Awakino district. This lady or gentleman has sent these valuable seeds for years past. I enclose £1 T>s 8d received, viz,, firewood 7s 6d, donation box Gs 2d, boat hire Its. I am glad to report that the storms and gales of last month did mq material damage to any part of the parks. It was decided to leave the matter of engaging additional assistance in the hands of the chairman.
GENERAL. Mrs Cory asked the Board for permission to hold the keys of the tea room, and only open on special days such as band Sundays, as it did not pay to keep the rooms open every day. # It was decided to ask Mrs Corey to meet the Board at next, meeting. With reference to the £l3O donated by the New Plymouth Borough Council to be spent as approved by him, Mr C. H. Burgess wrote sus«esting that it should be used in providing a stone wall at the entrance of Fillis street in place of the very unsightly iron fence now in It was resolved to accede to the request and to ask the Borough Council to permit the wall to be erected 12ft on Fillis street. A committee of the whole Board to (leal with the matter. Mrs Burgess was appointed visitor for the month. . Accounts amounting to £9 4s 5d were passed for payment.
