Mr H. G. Carman, of Eltham, has received news of the death at Christchurch of his (father, Mr Phillip J. Carman. Mr Carman left for Christchurch on Monday. Mrs. A. Deane, Courtenay Street, has received advice that her son, Private T, Deane, lia3 been wounded and was admitted to hospital on October 23. Private C. R. Stead, of Waitara (47Ch Reinforcements), who is home on leave_ for a few weeks, has been confined to his bed during the past or so, through a severe attack or influenza. Mr. H. R. Billing, Crown Prosecutor, of New Plymouth, is at present in Wellington in connection with Supreme Court business. Mrs. F. G. Harvie on Tjiesday received the news that her mother, Mrs Willis, had died at Epsom, _ Auckland the previous day after a brief illness, Mrs. Willis was the wife of the late Archdeacon Willis. The' Rev. and Mrs. Harvie left on Tuesday to attend the funeral, which takes place at Cambridge. The death occurred at Auckland on Sunday 0 f Mr. F. J. Curtis, for many years in business at Eltham. Although a sufferer for a long period, Mr. Curtis, with wonderful pluck and energy, had built up a good business, and was esteemed for his upright dealing. To his' wife and children much sympathy will be felt. He will be buried at Eltham to-day. Private F. J. Curtis, junr., has just reached New Zealand, invalided from the front.
Sergeant Reginald Stanley .Tudson, who was reported last week to have won the Victoria Cross, holds, also, the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Military Medal. He is one of the most highly decorated members of the New Zealand Forces. The" next-of-kin of the Victoria Cross winner is his wife, who resides at Ponsonby, Auckland, Sergeant Judson. V.C., D.C.M., M.M., is ti member of the Auckland Infantry Regii ment.
