30,000 PRISONERS. TAKEN IST FLAXDERS. London, Oct. 30. A British-Belgian communique states: Between October 14 and 27, 18,433 prisoners have been taken in Flanders, of which the Belgians have taken 7002, the British 2nd Armv 5334, and the Frendli. 5177. Since September 28 over 30,000 have been taken prisoner. Five hundred and nine guns and 1200 machine-guns have been captured between October 14 and 27. —Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc. STIFF GERMAN RESISTANCE. SOUTH OF VALENCIENNES, London, Oct. 30. Mr. PcTcival Phillips states that the chief enemy resistance is in the southern outskirts of Valenciennes, in the milewide strip between the Scheldt and tlbe Bhcnelle river. The Germans are holding on firmly to the village of Aulnoy, whieh our advanced troops reached temporarily yesterday. The fighting has been severe and continuous since Saturday.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. BRITISH AIR FORCE. DOES USEFUL WORK, London, Oct. 29. Tlho Press Bifreau states: The Independent Air Force heavily attacked Morhange aerodrome. Eighteen hits were observed and a fire resulted. We also bombed Frescaty aerodrome and attacked the Badischer soda factory, also the railways at Treves, Saarbrucken and the railway junctions of Longuyon, Eeouviez, and Tbionville, with excellent results. A total of ten tons of bombs was dropped. No British planes are missing. We ,also attacked an aerodrome at Jamez with good results.— Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc, and Renter. OFFICIAL REPORTS. London, Oct. 30. An American communique reports: There is heavy artillery fire on the west of the Meuse especially north of St. Justis. Aerial activity is/ increasing.— Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc, and' Router. London, Oct. 30. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We made a successful raid north-eastward of Englefontame and repulsed an attempt* ed "attack northward of Famers.—Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc. New York, Oct. 30. The Americans, north of Verdun, have captured Aincveville.—Aus. X.Z. Cable Assoc, London, Oct. 30. A French communique reports: Between the Oise aud the Serre there was lively artillery fire, notably in tliie region of Crccy-sur-Serre. The sth Army attacked eastward of Chateau Porcien on a front of 12 kilometres, between St. Quentin-le-Pctit and Serpy. The enemy, ordered to hold at all costs, resisted wilh great desperation. On the left we debouched from St. Quentin-le-Petit and carried the lines to the approaches of Hill 137, westward of Banoges. We progressed in the centre, overcoming all resistance, and drove the enemy over the Recouvrance Road. On the rigiiit we carried Hill 150 and advanced eastwards. The prisoners counted exceed 758. American official: Xorthward of Verdun wo occupied Aincrevile and established our lines northward of the village. A NEW ZEALAND V.O. London, Oct. 30. The Victoria Cross has been awarded to Sergeant R. S. Judson, of tbo Auckland Regiment, wlho led a small bombing party under heavy fire, captured a ma-chine-gun and proceeded up a sap alone, bombing tliree machine-gun crews. Ho ordered a party of two officers and ten men to surrender. T'jey fired, but he threw bombs and jtim icd down among them, killed two, put 'ie rest to flight, and captured two machine-guns, thus saving lives and enabling the advance to continue unopposed. Fifteen New Zealanders have been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assoc. VIOLATING THE RED CROSS. New York, Oct. 30. The Germans ai« continuing to violate Tho Hague Convention. This "revealed by the announcement by the British Official Bureau in New York that when British troops of the sth Army, under Sir William Birdwood, captured German Red Cross wagons it was found that they were loaded with ammunition. —Aus.
