The report.for the year 1917-18 stated that the year had been a comparatively quiet one; nevertheless, the committee are a-ble to report steady progress, and feel that their efforts to provide amusement and recreation have obtained a large measure of success. A considerable amount of money had been subscribed towards building a weir across the Henui River, and the committee hope that this w r ill be an acomplished fact shortly after the conclusion of the war. The committee have appointed a caretaker for tho summer months this year, and are altering the bathing shed 3 so that a nominal charge can be made to bathers, for its use. This, the committee hope, will increase their funds, and enable them to retain the services of the caretaker, who, being a competent life-saving man, will give greater security to bathers, especially children. The weekly long-night dances proved very popular. The committee are greatly indebted to Mrs. George's orchestra and Miss George for assistance given. The weekly euehra parties were also a means of enjoyment to many. The committee regret that the Citizens' Band was not able to make more use of the excellent rotunda, but hope that this will he remedied during the next year. They draw attention to the afternoon tea which is available every Thursday and Sunday afternoon during the summer months, and also to the hot- water which is daily available to picnic parties at the nominal charge of Id- The' committee have to record its appreciation of tho gratuitous services of Mr. A.
