(From Our Own Correspondent.) October 30. The Mayor (Mr. George Young) and Councillor Buckley have been appointed by the Borough Council to interview the Minister for Finaneo in Wellington on matters connected with the new electric power-house loan. Mr. K. N. Roberts, of Christclmrch, who has been spending a few days witKi his brother here, left for the South on Monday last. Thero was a representative gathering at the opening of the Moa Road Board's town depot last Saturday afternoon, when the premises arid mae'iiinery were inspected. After photographs of the gathering had been secured, Mr. Corkill (chairman) invited the party to the board's chambers, where light refreshments were partaken of, and toasts appropriate to the occasion llionored. Another old Inglewood boy, Private Arthur Atkinson, has laid down his life for King and country. Ho was a bright and popular young fellow. Whilst in France he was a member of the champion tug-of-war team, and quite recently a gold medal won by him reached Inglewood. The news of his .death came as a sl'ivock to the community, and his widowed mother and relatives have the sincere sympathy of all. ! The Blossom-time (Social, arranged by the- local lassies under tho-' supervision of Miss Riorden, eventuated last Thursday evening, and was a pronounced success. For: weeks past the girls have been working hard, and their efforts were crowned with success, The proceeds, about :C!7, will lie devoted to t'lio Returned Soldiers' Club'fund. During the evening, a. brace of sausages 1 was sold and re-sold, resulting in a return of .I'd from this mysterious transaction. Labor Bay was spent quietly here. The sporting fraternity were well represented at, Waverley, although not so strongly as.on previous occasions. New Plymouth attracted many others. The golfers went lo Hawera.
