T ■ Mr. James Simpson, the Canadian Labor leader, who is at- present in Taranaki, speaking in the interests of prohibition, leaves New Plymouth for Eltham today, where he speaks in the Town Hall to-night. To-morrow ho visits Patea. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Gilling and family, who, have been residents of Hawera for a number of years, left yesterday for Auckland, where they will reside in future. Mr. 0. Hurrell, of Hawera, has received cable advice stating that his son, Sergeant A. Hurrell, was admitted to hospital in France on October 14, with gunshot wound in the ankle. Trooper Charles Potts, son of Mrs. Potts, of New Plymouth was killed in action in France on October 9. He enlisted from Stratford, where he was for several years employed in the offiee of Mr. T. H. Penn, and was highly thought of there. He was wounded some months ago, and had not long returned to the front when he met his death, . Dr. J. Hardio Neil, of Auckland, who has been awarded the D.5.0., was previously decorated for services in the present war, receiving, the French Croix de Guerre in February last. Dr. Neil left for with the No. 1 Field Ami bulnnce towards the clo-c of the Gallipoli campaign, having previously acted for a time as commandant of the Awa* puni Camp. After serving for a period in Egypt 'be was transferred to France. The Rev. Dr. G. E. Weeks, dewi of Nelson, at a recent service in the Nelson Cathedral, stated, that he had recently received two invitations from Auckland parishes—All Saints', Ponsonby, and St. Mary's, Parnell—to accept the position of vicar. These positions, he said, promised an opportunity for a wider ministry, but, after giving the matter earnest thousht- he bad declined Ihottjli invitation*.
