WESTOWN SCHOOL CONCERT.
A most successful concert was given in the Westown Hall on Friday night in order to provide funds to pay the rent 01 the hall, which is used as a side School of Frankley School, the residents of the district having to guarantee the rent before the Education Department would establish the school. The hall was crowded, standing room only being available. The first portion of the programme took the form of a concert, the majority of the performers" hailing from town. All deservedly received a good reception, encores being demanded in most cases and acceded to. Songs were given by Mrs. Plumtrec and Miss Birch, each being encored, Messrs Reg. Saunders (encored) and Wood. Miss Asher gave a pianoforte solo, and Messrs Putt, Veale, Asher, Saunders, and Wood a quartette. The comic element was in the hands of Mr. J. Lovell, the popular favorite, who had to respond to a double encore. Mr, Howlett, another able •comedian, was also encored. The second half was an old-time minstrel show. Mr. J. Lovell (bones) was the life and soul of the troupe, and he was ably supported by Mr. W. Putt (tambo), their funny business and smart patter with Massa Johnson (Mr. IP. Asher) proving irresistible. Messrs Veale (Joe) and Howlett (Ned) were also good, being well supported bv the other members of the ti-oupe. Miss Asher acted as accompnist to the minstrels, and to the majority of I the concert items, Mr. Saunders also assisting.
