WOOLGROWERS' GENEROSITY.
SHARING PROFITS WITH SAILORS' DEPENDENTS. '' ' Wellington, Oct. 26. The Dominion sheep owners have taken up enthusiastically the proposal that their share of any surplus profits made by the Imperial Government on the issue of New Zealand wool for civilian purposes should be devoted to a fund for dependents of sailors of the Royal Navy and Mercantile Marine who have been wounded or lost their lives in defence of the Empire. During the first few weeks the trustees have received signed orders from aver 2200 wool growers from North Cape to Stewart Island, representing thrge million ■sheep, and orders are arriving at the rate of fifty to 100 daily. As any distribution made by the Imperial Government will be pro rata to the value of the slip, the idea is as near as one can get to equality in giving. 'Llj-is aspect is plainly recognised, as replies are arriving as freely from owners of a few bales as from owners of many, Waimoa County, Nelson, heads the list in number of signatories, with Southland, Rangitikei, Jiasterton, and Ashburton next in that order. Hawke's Bay County has the largest number of bales, followed closely by Rangitikei, and Waiapu counties. In the list of sheep districts the largest number of signatories is from the West Coast of the North Island, wit|h Auckland arid' Otagcf'closc up second, while in number of bales the West Coast again leads, with' Hawke's Bay second and Otago third.
